- : that can drive a CD-ROM and/or ZIP drive.
-
- AT needs to move Amigas away from floppy drives. It would be best for
- them to make the floppy an optional add on. Zips would be a good
- replacement but the media cost is to high for developers to distribute
- software on. CDROMs are much better. Amigas of the future should make
- backup device an optional add on. This would also force software
- companies to distribute on CD only. The CDROM should be bootable so you
- could install the OS from it.
-
- Note to any one from AT that's reading this, if you make CDs bootable,
- please just have it look to see if the startup-sequence exists instead
- of the way the CD32 does it.

- : I bet AT could get their costs for a SCSI PCMCIA controller down
- : to way under $40 per unit in quantity. Heck, the Squirrel is
- : going for $99 retail in Amazing. Why bother with motherboard
- : changes?
-
- Well if they are going to revise the motherboard anyway, they might as
- well add a SCSI controller on it. The parts would be even cheaper
- incorporated on the motherboard. There is plenty of room for one on the
- board and they could use a cable to bring the connector out to the
- expansion hole on the back. On motherboard SCSI means you don't have to
- have that PCMCIA card hanging off the side. The end user would more
- likely to buy a SCSI device if SCSI was included on the machine.
